Background Change

Use Background Change to prepare clean studio shots, set branded scenes, or adapt visuals for campaigns.

What is Background Change?

Background Change lets you replace an image’s background while keeping the subject intact. It automatically adjusts lighting, shadows, and colors so the subject blends naturally into the new environment for a realistic final image.

How to Use It

Open an Image in Edit

In Gallery, click the Edit icon on a generated image, or upload a new image in Edit.

  • Seamless white background, soft lighting
  • Modern boutique interior, neutral tones
  • Sunny beach, strong sunlight from above

Change Background ToggleToggle to enable or disable the optimized background change tool in Edit.
Background promptText describing the new background scene, lighting, or style.
Number of imagesGenerate 1–4 variations in a single run. Each variation is stored as a separate history entry that can be reused as a source image for further edits.
ResolutionSupported: Precise 1K (default) and Balanced 4K (Pro/Agency). See Parameter Deep Dives: Resolution for behavior and tradeoffs.

Best Practices

  • Even though it's possible to also change other aspects of the image (e.g. pose) while changing the background, it's recommended to focus just on the background change for best results. Pose can be changed later with the toggle turned off.

Troubleshooting

If the result doesn’t look quite right, try these quick fixes:

  • Lighting mismatch (the subject doesn’t match the new background) → Add more detail in your text prompt about the lighting direction and intensity. For example: “Bright sunlight from above creates soft shadows under the chin and nose.”

Where Next?

Power up your visuals even further:

  • Increase the resolution of your image with Upscale in Gallery
  • Create more views or poses with Edit
  • Apply Reframe to fit marketplace or social aspect ratios
  • Convert your new image into motion clips with Image to Video
